Important Notes regarding Spring 2023 Season-
We have made a concerted effort this season to create more balanced flights among teams with similar skill levels. This has led to smaller flights and more flights with an odd number of teams, which present their own challenges.
With smaller flights you end up playing opponents multiple times.
Odd numbers of teams means we have teams that sit out play each week on a BYE since there is no opponent.
To offset those situations, we have instituted the following special procedures this Spring: (DUE TO SPRING SCHEDULING DIFFICULTIES WE WILL NOT BE CONDUCTING IN SEASON PLAYOFFS FOR FLIGHTS WITH 4-6 TEAMS. PLAY YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED GAMES)
One Game Playoff for Flights with 4 or 6 teams- With small divisions you end up playing some teams 2 and 3 times. As a solution, for flights with 4 or 6 teams, your June 4th game will mix it up by playing a mini-one game playoff.
Flights with 4 teams- based on final standings, #1 plays #2 and #3 plays #4
Flights with 6 teams- based on final standings, #1 plays #2, #3 plays #4, and #5 plays #6.
Higher ranked team will host the June 4th match and pay the referees. In the event that teams are tied in season long point standings, we will use the same tiebreaker progression that we do for the Fall season.
The playoff game is the same length as regular season. At the end of regulation, if the match is tied, Co-Champions are declared.
Crossover games in lieu of Byes
Where possible, we offset these when there is an adjacent flight that also has an odd number of games. We paired up the one team from each flight on a BYE that week so that they have a Crossover Game. Everywhere we could, we did this. In some situations, there was no adjacent flight to pair up with.
Crossover games are not in the system. See the pages on the website where they are listed.
These games do not count towards standings points, but they are not optional. We are trying to provide the most soccer we can for all. Teams must make the same good faith efforts to play, the same way you would for any other league match.
